Kampala Serena Hotel reckoned to be the best in East Africa, was opened in Kampala November 2006. Its management company The Tourism Promotion Services will also manage Rwanda’s Hotel Intercontinental of Kigali and Sun Kivu on Lake Kivu beginning January 2007. Tourism Promotion Services (TPS) is one of the arms of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development.
Uganda will host in its Capital Kampala the next edition of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) next year 2007. This will bring together over 50 Heads of state from former colonies of Britain. The Queen of England, who is the head of CHOGM, will attend the event.
Security
Security in Uganda’s main parks of Murchison, Kibale Forest, Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth, Lake Mburo, Mgahinga, Mts Elgon and Rwenzori, Semliki has been commendable in the past two years. Travel to Kidepo in the North east continue normally, although the road conditions remain unsuitable so traveling by air is recommended.
Travel to all Rwanda’s national parks of Nyungwe Forest, Akagera andVolcanoes Gorilla Park continues normally.
Prices
Rwanda is slated to increase gorilla permit prices from the current US$375 to US$500. This is proposed to start with effect from early next year. Date and exact prices will be posted on this site once finalized by the Rwandan authorities.
